Gilsbunga Mountain
The hike starts at the northern end of Háuhlíðarvegur in Sauðárkrókur, leads you to Gilsbungafjall and then back. Follow the gravel road to the water tanks at the foot of Gilsbungafjall. The trail includes one signpost where you cross a white gate. The project “Útsjón” by Ægir Ásbjörnsson is located on a cliff above the farm Brennigerði, about halfway to Gilsbunga. The highest point is near Gilsbunga, 500 m above sea level. You can extend the hike by climbing Staðaröxl, 836 m high, and/or Gilsbunga, which rises 842 m above sea level. The magnificent views are well worth the effort.
